The job holder supports the Senior Assistant Director (International Organisations and Security) to chart and harmonise MHA’s engagement strategy across the domains of Drugs and Transnational Organised Crime and safety and security issues on international and regional forums.

Job Description

The job holder supports the Senior Assistant Director (International Organisations and Security) to chart and harmonise MHA’s engagement strategy across the domains of Drugs and Transnational Organised Crime and safety and security issues on international and regional forums.

The job holder will supervise the coordination and determination of MHA’s safety and security interests for the international conventions and resolutions, and develop and advocate these interests (as positions) at key international platforms. Where appropriate, to attend and staff international conferences and meetings for domains and issues, such as the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and MHA-related meetings helmed by international organisations.

The job holder will also assist to coordinate and formulate MHA’s positions for issues relating to the international anti-money laundering and countering of terrorism financing (AML/CFT) standards set by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). The job holder will develop a deep understanding of law enforcement issues including investigation, prosecution, confiscation, financial intelligence, terrorist financing and relevant legislation to safeguard and establish Singapore’s credibility as a jurisdiction with robust AML/CFT capabilities, in line with the broader national objective to position Singapore as a leading financial hub in the region.

Job Requirements

  • Tertiary Qualification preferably in international relations, law, political science or other related discipline;
  • Knowledge of other languages would be of asset but not essential;
  • A strong interest in current affairs and international relations work
  • A strong appreciation of MHA’s work in the safety and security domain
  • Good networking skills
  • Good communications and writing skills; independent and possesses strong team spirit
  • Critical thinking and analysis skills
  • Good appreciation of cultural, political, and religious sensitivities
  • Avid reader of international politics and developments
  • Good team player
  • Confident and accountable

All new appointees will be appointed on a two-year contract in the first instance.
