How I got my job and developed into my role at Marsh McLennan
I entered Marsh through the Marsh Graduate Development Programme. Typically, a management trainee will be rotated within the firm and across four different departments. During my rotations, I had the opportunity to work in both the general and specialty lines of business which serve to provide broad-based industry knowledge and on how Marsh’s business offerings benefit our clients. Apart from the rotations, there are a plethora of initiatives that aim to connect you with senior management and to assist you in building your network within the firm. I believe that the programme has equipped graduates with the tools crucial to building the launch pad that will propel us further into our careers.
How I would describe the culture within my team
I’m currently with the Private Equity, Merger & Acquisitions (PEMA) team, and it has been a wild ride over the past nine months! My colleagues in PEMA are definitely some of the most energetic and growth-oriented individuals that I’ve met. The team is dynamic and collaborative, and you’re able to work hand in hand with your seniors on live deals. You’re also encouraged to take ownership over your work, and given the autonomy to run projects and manage work teams. On a broader note, Marsh has an open and nurturing culture where people in the firm are extremely welcoming and interested in helping you succeed.
What I enjoy most about my job
During my time with the PEMA team, I was able to work on a deal regarding the proposed acquisition of a waste-to-energy plant in Singapore. It was my first time working on such a project and spearheading the work process with subject matter experts from the infrastructure team. While it was truly a challenging experience, I believe that it was an invaluable learning experience for me and I was
able to glean knowledge from the project teams that I was collaborating with. In addition to that, I was able to hone my project management skills in managing the workflow and stakeholders in the project. Under the guidance of my manager, I was able to complete the diligence exercise successfully.
