"I also focus on building great relationships with my teammates, as it not only increases our work efficiency, but also enables us to reduce stress and better our learning opportunities."
8:30AM
On my commute to work, I always plan for what I need to achieve for the day. Once I’m in the office, I’ll catch up on emails and follow-up tasks that I listed down on the previous day.
Working in the logistics industry is challenging as it’s a fast-paced industry which is full of immense changes. Hence, I believe identifying our goals clearly at the start of the day allows us to fully utilise our time efficiently and stay focused.

As a Management Trainee in the Transportation Management Services (TMS) department, the main scope of my role involves data analytics, route planning, system handling, solutions design and team management.
In addition, this is the time where I’ll usually perform data analytics and solutions design for potential new clients. As solutions design is project-based, my tasks are rarely repetitive or similar. Moreover, different clients have different product types and requirements, so I must analyse accordingly to ensure we’re able to achieve customer satisfaction and profit maximisation.
Thankfully, I have a great superior and teammates who are extremely resourceful, and willing to guide me patiently on how to achieve the best results.

12:00PM
It’s lunch time! I usually have lunch with my friends and colleagues from different departments. Through our conversations, I’m able to gain new knowledge about the industry beyond transportation.
Other times, I have lunch with my superior or teammates to catch up on life outside of work. From my point of view, it’s extremely important to build a good rapport with everyone, as a strong team often has extraordinary productivity.

A leader is the one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way. Throughout my analysis progress, I’ll constantly consult with my manager on the logic and workings behind my analysis.
In addition, I’ve been fortunate enough that my manager is always willing to guide me patiently and impart his knowledge, which strongly motivates me to grow and learn at full tilt. A year on from being new to data analytics, I’ve picked up few basic programming languages, such as Tableau and Microsoft VBA. I’m truly grateful that my superior and teammates are very willing to provide support and guidance throughout my learning journey.

This is the time where I’ll perform system handling to generate key performance indicator (KPI) reports and route planning. In addition, I often work closely with my team members to discuss potential challenges and hurdles of next day delivery.
Furthermore, I’ll brainstorm improvement initiatives with my teammates, as I believe working as a team leads to better productivity. When a team tackles a project, the project benefits from multiple perspectives, skill sets and experiences all at once.
Hence, I also focus on building great relationships with my teammates, as it not only increases our work efficiency, but also enables us to reduce stress and better our learning opportunities.

6:00PM
At the end of the day, I’ll list my outstanding matters and to-do list for the day after. I’ll also check in with my teammates and see if I can lend a hand if they need it.
If everything is fine, I’ll call it a day and meet my friends for dinner or some drinks. Moreover, I organise a badminton session every week to stay active and decompress. Once everything is wrapped up, it’s time to head home recharge and prepare for the next day!
