Jackson graduated with a Bachelor of Management (Business) from the Singapore Management University – Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (SIM-RMIT), in 2020.

Why did you choose your course?

I’ve always wanted to pursue the business path, because I believe that it leads to great career options. It has been so! One of my key accomplishments during my academic career was speaking at a conference about a business prototype, based on research I had done for one of my senior-level classes. This led to an internship and the full-time position I’m in now.

Had you considered a career in sales before joining income? 

No. The change of mind was a golden opportunity that came with a very flexible career proposition. There was no rush to decide in getting a certain role while on the SMA earn-and-learn programme. Unlike self-employed insurance agents, Income offers an additional one-of-a-kind client advisory roles in retail financial services that we can’t find with other insurers.

What really attracted me was the exposure to different departments and exclusive mentorship from senior management. Moreover, job stability was offered despite the pandemic, so I could learn the ropes of being a competent financial adviser well.

As one of the top 100 employers in Singapore, I’m blessed that Income set the right stage and working pace for me. I’m looking forward to more exciting times ahead!

Training and support

Due to the pandemic, our training consisted of online modules as well as virtual trainings. There’s a dedicated training team which conducts weekly training to boost our sales skills, such as communication skills, presentation skills and much more. One session typically lasts about one to two hours, and involves theoretical insights, interactive activities and quizzes. All newbies are assigned an experienced mentor who helps us learn the ropes that’ll allow us to be competent in our roles.

Work-life balance

As insurance advisers, we normally accommodate client requests on meetups and call timings. Although our working hours are office-based, we tend to stretch working hours till the late evening or the weekends.

If our working hours are long, we have to sort out our rest time individually. Income gives me a very accommodative, vibrant and family-oriented environment, where we strive to do well to do good as a social enterprise company.

Describe your overall experience

The overall experience is awesome. Income offers diverse career roles which focuses on financial planning, underwriting, claims, customer service and backend operations. The company also values work-life integration, and events and welfare are given importance.

What's the most fulfilling part of your career?

The best part is to balance out the potential to do well and do good at the same time.
