My company and my job
My job is to reach out to as many people as I can and share how individuals and their families have benefitted through financial planning. I also service my clients by addressing concerns that they may have on their claims or the insurance plans they have purchased. I ensure that my clients are adequately covered in times of need.
How I got my job
I was studying full-time and was looking for a part-time job to pay for school. I then found this job, which allowed me to have a flexible schedule to juggle between school and work.
I went through the interview with an AIA manager and it was very enjoyable – I felt like I was talking to a friend. The AIA manager was very friendly and encouraging.
I was eventually selected for the job, and I think what sets me apart from other candidates then was my positive mindset and the commitment that I was prepared to put forth to succeed in the career.
The highs and lows
This is not just any other job to me; I love this job due the affirmation I receive from my clients. What keeps me motivated is the ability to make a real difference to the lives of others.
The most challenging part of my job is submitting death claims. I will never forget an incident in 2015, when one of my clients had died in an accident. However, the insurance payout had helped sustain the family and given them a new focus in the midst of their grief. Helping others is one of my greatest achievements in this job.
Training and support
AIA provided me with foundation training sessions that took place over 2 months. Conducted by experienced, professional trainers, the sessions provide us with a competitive edge over other companies. Furthermore, AIA caters in-depth workshops and seminars to enhance our knowledge and skill sets – this prepares me for my time with my clients.
My boss has also mentored me through one-on-one coaching sessions – sharing real-life cases and providing me with solutions that help me to handle problems better.
While this career gives us a lot of time flexibility, I would like to be disciplined and have my own fixed schedule that I follow through. This allows me to keep pace with the work and my clients, while remaining competitive in this industry. I like my company’s culture as everybody works together like a big family. We make sure that we work hard and we play hard together.
Self-discipline is doing what needs to be done. You need to know yourself, know your job and be focused on what you need and want. Have a plan on how to achieve it and you can be assured that success will come.
